I'm doing home work and not going to school
One of my readers ask me a homework question about Excel formulas in a recent article I posted on Nested IF statements. In his defense the problem seemed fairly simple, but you had to think carefully about the options and then know what Excel functions to use.
The Problem
For three scores you get one grade: Failed, Passed or Honors. Any of the scores less than 60 gets you a failed score. All of...

Easy Access to SkyDrive Files in the Cloud →
The Microsoft Document Connection program that comes with Office 2011 for Mac is a great way to access your SkyDrive files in the cloud with Excel 2011 or any of the Office 2011 programs.
Much better than the Windows method of using the browser.
Comparison of Equation Editors →
Excel 2010 and Word 2011 have the same Equation Editor. Similar to Mathematical Equations in Google Docs, but with many more features and the ability to do complex equations. Of course these are just graphical objects.
And they take a some time on the learning curve to become competent.
But a nice feature if you need it.
Excel Keyboard Shortcuts for Mac
If you’re new to Excel for Mac the first thing to do is go to the Search box in Help and type in Excel Keyboard Shortcuts. You’ll find and entry of the same name and life saving information. Just kidding, well sort of. :)
I found this in my search to Switch Between Relative and Absolute References in Excel for Mac.
MS Office Web Apps Integrated into new Facebook... →
Sometime in the future you won’t have to leave Facebook to view an attached Excel spreadsheet in the new messaging system. Microsoft Office web apps will be integrated. Hats off to Microsoft to getting this done.
Spreadsheet Challenge Picture →
I guess I took the easy way out and sent in a picture of me with some Excel books. Instead of creating a wiz-bang spreadsheet.
I don’t really have a picture of me on my website so this is a chance to see me in the flesh.
The Two Sides of Excel for Mac
Why does Microsoft have some seriously good improvements in Excel 2011 for Mac and in the same program be completely bereft on certain features? A new Ribbon interface, yet leaving out entirely the Evaluate Formula functionality?
How about adding a Switch Reference button for all of us Windows users who can’t figure out why F4 doesn’t work when editing a formula in a cell? That’s good stuff,...
What about OR and AND?
That was the comment that Rich left in my article for Nested IF Functions in Excel and to which I can’t stop thinking about how to best convey to my readers.
I recently put together a matrix of TRUE and FALSE values, then Added them together, Multiplied them, used them with the AND and OR functions, and finally included the NOT function for good measure.
This might sound strange but...
My Website Feed Has Betrayed Me
I’m not one that likes getting a website feed delivered to my feed reader or email inbox, then having to click through to read the entire post. The reason I subscribe is so I don’t have to go to the website. (Are you paying attention here LifeHacker?)
Now my Excel Semi-Pro feed has betrayed me and is not showing the full post for my last few articles. I’ve checked my Feedburner...
“Show Us Your Spreadsheets” Challenge →
My entry was received by Wiley and posted. Just a simple picture with two desktop monitors, a MacBook Pro, and an iPad filled with five versions of Excel and three different PDF books of John Walkenback’s books. Oh and me.
New Mode of Communication
I’ve added a new communication vehicle, Tumblr, that will help me share Excel related tips, tricks, discoveries, and frustrations in a slightly different format.
All of these blurbs will be sent to Twitter via my @ExcelSemiPro account, but since Twitter is restricted to 140 characters you won’t get the full story unless you click through to this new Tumblelog. Or subscribe if...
